内容	It happens sometimes that a $p$-adic $L$-function vanishes at a certain point merely because an Euler factor turns out to vanish. Correspondingly, a generator of the characteristic ideal of a certain Iwasawa module will vanish at a certain point. This kind of behavior first showed up in classical Iwasawa theory where one studies ideal class groups of number fields and later showed up again in Iwasawa theory for elliptic curves. We will discuss those two special cases and how they fit into a more general framework.
