内容	My first lecture will be aimed at a very broad audience. I will say something about what is known, but raise a number of general questions left open by work done so far. In general, we ought be able to use Iwasawa theory to prove the full Birch-Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture for all elliptic curves defined over Q with analytic rank at most 1, but I want to stress the major difficulties that remain in achieving this. In the second lecture, I will probably discuss in detail the Iwasawa theory of the quadratic twists of X_0(49).
