Cherry Bud Workshop 2007
Interaction Through Data

Dates: 13-16, March, 2007.
Place: Yagami Campus, Keio University, Yokohama, Japan
Admission: Free for Regular Participants
Programme: HTML|PDF

This is the 4th in a series of international Cherry Bud workshops held every spring in Yokohama since 2004. These workshops form part of the Keio University 21st Century COE programme "Integrative Mathematical Sciences: Progress in Mathematics Motivated by Natural and Social Phenomena". Previous workshop themes were "Data Science and System Reduction" (2004), "Quantitative Risk Management" (2005), and "Building Models from Data" (2006).

The broad theme of this workshop is interaction through data. Here the interaction is between data scientists (statisticians, probabilists etc), subject matter specialists (scientists, people in industry etc) and the quantitative problems they face. The medium of communication is data, and the methods and models applied to it. The workshop aims to improve productivity in science and business by exploring more effective ways of interaction through data.

The fields of application are not restricted and are likely to include Bioinformatics, Environmetrics, Mathematical Finance, Quantitative Risk Management among others. It is hoped that this workshop will contribute to a better understanding of the importance of effective ways of interaction through data.

A key objective of the workshop is to encourage Keio University graduate students to develop their current research projects by providing opportunities for links and interaction with other international researchers in their fields. To facilitate this, graduates from Keio University and other Japanese universities will be encouraged to present their work at a special poster session to be held during the workshop.

More generally, the workshop is intended to provide a stimulating environment for all participants to learn more about recent research and developments in this general area.
